Purebred cattle have been the hallmark of the seedstock industry since records began being kept, but the beef industry is changing. Seedstock production will continue to change as well. The seedstock industry needs to understand that their role is very different today than it has been in the past. Beef genetics produced at the seedstock level are the raw materials of the industry; they are the ‘ore’ from which a quality product can be developed.
As margins tighten for the commercial producer, using questionable genetics becomes a much riskier proposition. If we don’t begin with the right ore, how can we ever expect to produce the right product? And, if we don’t produce the right product, it is going to be tough to stay profitable.
There is no hype nor glamour surrounding raw materials production in most industries, only specification. The raw material that best meets the specs, commands the highest price; it is that simple.
At Vista, this is exactly our approach to seedstock production; we are about producing the genetics that will best help you build a quality product and make a profit. To do this, we need the genetic evaluations provided by breed associations; they provide the measuring tools to gauge how well our ‘ore’ meets the specs. But, purebred cattle are not the best possible seedstock for every situation.
Hybrid seedstock bring a level of performance for many production equations that most purebreds can never achieve. Difficult specs to measure up front, like longevity, calf survivability and adaptability are, and will always be, better met by hybrid seedstock. We believe that our Adaptor Hybrid bulls measure up as well as any hybrid seedstock on the market today.
The Vista Adaptor Hybrid combines the unique strengths of the Vista Braunvieh and Vista Red Angus herds into our most versatile line of seedstock. The Adaptor Hybrid is sensible seedstock, the kind that can improve the market fit of commercial
females without diminishing environmental fit.
The Adaptor Hybrid is the ultimate hybrid for adapting the Brahman influenced cowherd to today’s market. The Adaptor Hybrid provides
high fertility, low maintenance, and superior carcass merit to complement the ability of Brahman influenced cows to produce in
hotter climates. The Adaptor Hybrid can improve the marketability of your steers and provide you with composite replacement females suited to your environment with high levels of hybrid vigor.
